Introducing the

“Thin Man” Arborviate

Thuja occidentalis “SMTOTM'

Left:  “Thin Man” Arborvitae at our river growing fields.  Right:  more mature “Thin Man”.

We are pleased to announce that our first crop of “Thin Man” Arborvitae is now available for sale.  There has long been a need for narrow evergreen tree that is taller than an “Emerald Green” Arborvitae, and this is it!

We planted a small crop of these trees several years ago as 18” “starts”, which we purchased from an established “propagator”, Spring Meadow Nursery of Michigan.  We have since planted two other, larger, crops.  As far as we can tell, no other nursery in the country has grown these trees to maturity; certainly no one in the Northwest, and photos are few and far between.  We have been very satisfied with the rate and quality of the trees’ growth, but no one is able to tell us for sure what the mature height and width will be, so we are estimating those based on our experience.  The best example we have is this tree from our nursery; very nice looking and still growing . . .

ATTRIBUTES

Foliage:   Evergreen

Mature Height:  Estimated at 18-20’ tall

Mature Width:   Estimated at 2.5-3.0’ wide

Sunlight:  Full sun, partial sun.

Soil:.  Needs well-drained soil.

Growth Rate:  Medium-fast—1.5’-2' a year once established, depending on growing conditions.

"Instant Privacy" Use:  A narrow tree taller than the Emerald Green Arborvitae..

"Instant Privacy" Spacing:  2’ “centers”.

What to Expect the First Year:  As with all newly-planted trees, these need to be watered carefully through the first Spring/Summer--see our "Care of Your Trees" section for more details.  Not as much growth the first year because the tree is putting its efforts into its root system.  Possibly some small branches that were broken during installation will turn brown (cut them off or just leave them and they will fall off).

Comments:  As mentioned, this is our first crop of these trees and we are still learning about them.

"WAITING LIST" NOTICE:

Due to a huge demand for our trees and a limited supply we are currently using a Waiting List for these trees.  We are booked solid until the end of the year planting the trees we have available now, but we will have additional trees late this year/early 2022 when a new crop is available.  Sizes and prices will be established at that time.

To be added to our Waiting List please fill-out a Request for Free Estimate form and ask to be added to the Waiting List.  There is no cost or obligation for this, of course, and we will contact you when the trees become available.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

"We thought the Covid-19 Precautions were excellent.  It was obvious they were taken seriously.  I can't think of anything that would have added to our comfort and we are strictly self-isolating.

I love, love my cedars.  I tell people we planted a new forest.  They make me smile when I drive up the driveway."                                                                               J.M., Gig Harbor       May, 2020

Important Note

In accordance with Washington Governor Jay Inslee's "Stay at Home, Stay Safe" Order, we have closed our Nursery Office and are working remotely.  At this time we are not scheduling nursery visits or "site visits" (where we come to your property), but things are changing almost daily.  If you have a purchase request or a new project to discuss with us, please fill-out our online Request a Free Estimate form and one of our Project Managers will be back in touch with you to accomplish as much as can be done under these regulations.  We handle Request a Free Estimate forms in the order received and we anticipate a very busy season once we can re-open so we suggest you send in that form at your earliest convenience.

We are able to finish some projects that were arranged earlier this Spring.  For that work, and other work once we re-open, we will follow our Covid-19 protective steps as outlined on our "Covid-19" webpage (link in upper left hand side of any webpage).

If you are an existing Customer with a tree care question, please first look at the "Care of Your Trees" section of our website (link at the top of any page of www.nurserytrees.com).  If your question isn't answered, please send us an e-mail at info@nurserytrees.com and put in the Subject Line:  "Tree Care Question".  We monitor e-mails periodically.

Beyond this, we await further Orders from the Governor.  Thank you for your patience and understanding and please stay safe.

A Note on Tree Availability

A Nursery Tree Farm has a "cycle" each year:  Trees growing in the fields can only be dug when they are dormant, roughly October-April.  This provides us with trees for the spring and summer.  So, for example, trees that we sell in July were dug the previous March/April.  This time-lag is not a big deal in terms of quality--we take good care of the newly-dug trees--but sometimes we will sell out of various sizes of trees as the spring and summer go along.  When the next October rolls around we can start digging a new crop and so our inventory of available trees will increase dramatically as the "cycle" begins again.  We typically conduct a major inventory in September, to show us what we will have available starting the next October and beyond.  For more information, please see our "Buying From a Grower" page.

Please Note:

We were closed earlier this Spring and are now almost overwhelmed with work,

so sometimes we are not able to be as responsive as we would like to be.

Thank you for your patience and understanding and we look forward to working with you.

Customer Satisfaction:  Most important of all is what our customers think of us:

"I am really pleased with your work.  You saved me several thousand dollars, steered me away from trees that wouldn't work, provided healthy and beautiful trees, did a great job planting them, and did everything on time and on schedule.  You can quote me."                                                                          Jo, Vashon Island

"Our privacy bank of trees has done nothing but grow well into maturity.  Our back yard and deck area is totally private and the 10 trees your team planted [in 2005] are rich, leathery and dark green.  We remark on them every day it seems.  Please include me in any of your "Testimonials" as you would be hard pressed to find a more satisfied customer."                                                                                                                  Jim, Port Orchard

"For quality vs. value, your trees are the best landscape purchase I’ve ever made."    Jeff, Seattle

"Michael, I just wanted to pass along a note to tell you how thrilled I am with the trees.  The effect they have brought to our new courtyard in the front of our home here in Seattle has exceeded my expectations!"                                                                Chip Hanauer, Hydroplane Driver--Click Here to see his project.

"I work in customer service so I know good service when I experience it and you have my top rating.  I would definitely recommend you to anyone who needs new landscaping.  Thanks again.”               Carol, Camano Island

"The [new] trees were a great privacy feature when we sold the last house!  We now have a much larger space we want to talk with you about . . "                                                                                   Katherine, Fall City

“My compliments to your crew.  We’ve had a lot of contractors working on our house recently and we’ve seen the entire range; and your guys were excellent. The trees make things look so much better—I started smiling as soon as I saw them going in."                                                                                    Holly, Queen Anne

"You guys are the best nursery I've ever done business with! And I have dealt with a few. You did what you said you would, on time with attention to detail rarely found. From the beginning of the quote process all the way through to the last detail you made it easy. And you work to ensure that the trees will thrive after planting with detailed advice, a complementary irrigation system, and a website filled with useful information. Most nurseries will just dump off the goods and tell you best of luck, put some water on them. You provide a quality product that sets you apart. Your crew was friendly, polite and operated as a well organized team. I would recommend you without hesitation! Thanks for doing a great job!”                                                                                                   Ryan, Buckley

"We can not believe how beautiful your trees are.  The privacy is unbelievable. If you ever need a testimonial let us know.   Our yard is perfect!  We sit there and say "my oh my”!               Suzanne, Tacoma

"I don't think I've ever been as happy with something I've purchased."                           Sarah, Sammamish
