"Cliffhanger" Program

Custom Re-vegetation of Bluffs, Hillsides and River Property

-- To help prevent erosion and improve stability --

Photo Gallery for River Projects

This is a beautiful river property on the Skagit River near Concrete.  The bank is eroding and at times of high water the river can flood the field behind the bank.

This field is almost all sand, and there is a real concern that a flood could cause major erosion.

The "Cliffhanger" re-vegetation plan is to install a "planted grid"--a net with native plants and trees planted throughout to help lessen erosion.

This project is described below, and it is possible to set-up an appointment to view this Cliffhanger project.

Step 1: Site Preparation

The site is cleaned-up for the grid installation and the planting. We almost never remove any existing vegetation--the more vegetation the better.

Step 2: Installing the Grid

The grid is a netting which helps hold the plants and soil in place. There are several types of grids available, depending on the site characteristics and the wishes of the homeowner. Note that we need to work above the river's ordinary high water mark.

Grid (Cont.)

The grid is held in place by large metal stakes and the vegetation. The longer the vegetation has to become established before any flooding, the better.

Rocks

Decorative rocks staged for placement on the grid. These help hold the grid in place. Their use is optional.

Step 3: Planting Begins

Native plants staged for planting in the grid. On this project we used 400 plants & trees. Note also the grid stakes.

Vine Maple

These beautiful trees were grown at our Snohomish nursery tree farm.
